'Made from a Gramdmother's wedding dress.
'Displaying Grandma's lace on her lamp.
Commissions are my specialty. I really enjoy the challenge of incorporating each client's personality, style, ideas and treasures into a unique shade.
This summer I made three very special family shades. The first, (on the far right) is a lovely gold piece made for my niece's wedding. She and her sweetheart love dragonflies and I was able to copy the design from their save-the-date card, then bead and applique the dragonfly onto the shade. My niece has traveled to Japan and loves all things Asian so, I made the basic shade from a vintage Chinese gentleman's wedding skirt. The hand embroidered, gold silk lit up with an amazing glow. The picture here doesn't begin to do it justice. For the trim, I added hand-tinted dragonfly charms. My husband made the lamp from antique parts.
The shade in the center, made for my sister-in-law / mother of the bride, was stitched from my sweet father-in-law's pink dress shirt. The lamp is my husband's design. Even the base lights up.
The bridge lamp and shade were designed for my other sister-in-law. She sent me the silk fabrics, I put together the embellishments and my husband revived the beautiful lamp for their cabin retreat.
I'd love to collaborate with you! The photos below are a few more examples of commissioned pieces.
A photo of my husband's great grandmother, taken on her wedding day, sat on my work bench during the design process.
Making a "Memory Shade" is so personal ... I'd love to work with you on your special project.
